Be involved in projects with our growing Aviation Team and contribute to solving our client’s airport infrastructure objectives and challenges.   Our Aviation Technical Excellence Center provides engineering and planning services for airports’ horizontal infrastructure, vertical facilities, terminals and supports WSP's projects around the world. 
 
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Engineering Design Manager with airport development experience for our Charlotte, NC or Raleigh, NC offices. The ideal candidate will have experience in airport development, including a variety of landside and airside projects, including rehabilitation and reconstruction of runways, taxiways and aprons. 
 
The ideal candidate will have experience in airport design, and construction management; including project involvement in a variety of landside and airside projects, rehabilitation and reconstruction of airfield pavements, grading and drainage design, storm water management, utility engineering, etc. The selected candidate will be a team player, self-motivated with good communication skills and will supervise less experienced engineers and/or sub consultants either face to face or remotely. The selected candidate will be required to work on multiple concurrent projects which will require planning the work, prioritizing tasks, and following through to confirm that tasks assigned to others are progressing as required.  This position will also provide the selected candidate the opportunity to work with our growing portfolio of airports and support our design delivery team in the Southeast region.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Involved from project inception to completion in the design and construction administration of airport design projects, including grading, drainage, pavement design, specifications, and construction safety plans
  • Collaborating, coordinating and/or leading design teams consisting of multi-discipline design engineers and technicians
  • AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D design duties
  • Perform Quantity Take-Offs, considering costs and quantities of material, equipment and labor
  • Perform airfield civil design including airfield pavement design
  • 3D visualization and air space analysis
  • Analyze GIS data, client as-builts, survey data, geotechnical data, subsurface utility information and data needed for project development
  • Write technical engineering reports
  • Perform engineering calculations and support the assembly of construction specifications.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Experience Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in North Carolina or the ability to get licensed/register in North Carolina within 24 months of hire
  • 7 plus years of professional experience in all aspects of site civil engineering for design, including grading and drainage design, utility design, etc.,
  • Prior experience with FAA’s advisory circulars and their application in airport layout and geometric design a plus,
  • Must have experience in design tools such as AutoCAD Civil3D.
 
This position will support civil engineering at airports, not aerospace engineering.
