WSP is currently initiating a search for an Engineering Geologist for our San Diego - Vista Sorrento office.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Planning and conducting subsurface investigation and laboratory testing programs
  • Preparation of technical memoranda and reports
  • Providing geologic/geotechnical support during construction
  • Providing hydrogeologic and geologic analyses, geologic mapping and rock mass characterization
  • Field inspection and logging of boreholes
  • Investigation/evaluation of fault activity to locate and characterize fault hazards and risks

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS in Earth Science or Civil Engineering program from an accredited University
  • MS or PhD in Earth Science, Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering (focus on engineering geology, desired)
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in engineering geology or geological engineering practice
  • Functional understanding of structural geology and rock discontinuity characterization
  • Knowledge of Sand Diego/South Coast geotechnical and geologic practices in geology and hydrogeology
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Ability and willingness for some travel and field work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) in the State of California
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in engineering geology or geological engineering practice
  • Knolwedge in using geotechnical engineering software such as SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, GINT
  • Experience with slope stability evaluations, landslides, rockfalls and rockfall mitigation, and methods to mitigate movement
  • Experience with effective use of geophysical investigation methods including seismic, electromagnetic, electrical resistivity and GPR methods
  • Previous experience in fault hazard investigation studies and boreholes logging in accordance with Caltrans requirements
  • Experience using graphical software (such as Adobe Illustrator) and GIS databases
