WSP has an immediate opening for a Sr. Environmental Consultant will be responsible for client development and project management and while growing and mentoring a team to support your clients.
This position requires the oversight and completion of various tasks to support siting and permitting of offshore wind, utility, energy and infrastructure projects, including offshore wind, pipelines and related facilities, transmission lines, substations, and renewable energy and transportation projects. It is essential that the candidate have a thorough understanding of environmental laws and regulations which are the framework for the development of energy infrastructure development. In depth knowledge of permit applications, wetland and stream impacts, rare, threatened and endangered species consultation, land use, overhead and underground utility construction methodologies, water quality and stormwater management is desired. Familiarity with these issues and their application to energy and land development projects is strongly preferred. The Sr. Environmental Consultant will also be supporting business development efforts for our expanding environmental services practice.  The position offers great potential for professional growth in a stimulating work. 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop clients and sell WSP Environment services.
  • Pursue project opportunities and lead proposals with support by the marketing team.
  • Project management including successfully manage project tasks, including energy project environmental permitting. Theses tasks also include project scope development, cost estimation, staff resource identification, implementation oversight, budget tracking, and completion of administrative requirements.
  • Plan and oversee natural resource fieldwork, including bird and bat, cultural, wetland delineation, and other studies. Wetland delineations and/or biological fieldwork experience is preferred.
  • Write survey reports and prepare permit applications for federal and/or state environmental permits, including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Section 404 and Section 10, PA, NJ, MD, and/or DE state wetland and stream permits, NPDES, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service coordination.
  • Participate in linear energy planning/routing/siting studies including writing routing reports for submission to state public utility commissions.
  • Conduct environmental permitting for renewable energy and other generation facilities.
  • Attention and commitment to timely completion of high-quality work.
  • Support project management, including project scope development, cost estimation, staff resource identification, implementation oversight, budget tracking, and completion of administrative requirements .
  • Attend and facilitate stakeholder meetings and public hearings.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies.

  • 5-7+ years of relevant experience with increasing responsibility conducting research, assisting with project management, analyzing data, and preparing written documents for energy-related projects.
  • BS/BA in environmental studies, planning, natural resources, engineering or related field.
  • Experience with developing state and federal environmental permit applications and supporting documentation in NJ and mid-Atlantic states is required with a preference given for this experience with energy projects.
  • Experience in the environmental analyses associated with the siting and permitting of coastal or offshore projects and linear energy projects (pipelines and transmission lines).
  • Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with and potentially manage inter-disciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel 10-20% of time within US.
  • Ability to problem solve and think creatively.
  • MS/MA in related field may substitute for some experience.
  • Experience with stakeholder facilitation, public presentations, and public speaking.
  • Ability to be a lead wetland delineator.
