WSP is currently initiating a search for a Consultant, Communications Engineer for our New York, NY or Valhalla, NY office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Leads the design process for security systems (access control/video surveillance) and communications for transit and rail/tansprotation facilities projects
  • Draws on experience in A&E design process to produce final constructible plans and specifications
  • Analyzes project task needs, changes and enhancements and makes recommendations
  • Serves as Task Lead on projects, medium to high complexity and provides direction for projects
  • Stays abreast of industry changes and requirements, policies, procedures and legislation
  • Strong understanding of scope, schedule and budget
  • Assist with development of other engineers and transfer of technical knowledge/skills

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A minimum of three years’ experience; advanced degrees may substitute for one or more year of experience
  • Knowledge of engineering design standards and process, guidelines, principles and practices with an emphasis on communications and physical security
  • Documented experience in security and communications systems such as access control, IP video, networks, cabling infrastructure, PA/VIS, radio and other low voltage systems used at airports, rail stations, bridges and tunnels, highways and marine ports
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures 
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies 
  • Familiarty with NY area tranportation agencies such as Amtrak, LIRR, MetroNorth, NJT, NYCT, PANYNJ and their technical approach
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications, IT or related field highly preferred
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT), RCDD,  network certifications, vendor training a plus
