This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time  Associate Geologist/Hydrogeologist  for our Newark, NJ  office.  The following locations will also be considered: Morristown, NJ .  Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Provides support to technical staff and project managers for due diligence, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects.  Tasks may include conducting geophysical surveys, collecting environmental samples from various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air/vapor), and conducting site exploration and geologic logging using a variety of drilling techniques.  Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding field conditions, movement, outcome, and the ecological risks of contaminants. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Your Impact

  • Lead field sampling teams in sampling for various environmental media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and air)
  • Develop thorough knowledge of standard field sampling procedures for various environmental media (soil,    groundwater, surface water, sediment, and air)
  • Implement environmental sampling plans (sampling and testing)
  • Document and record data and observations in a clear and organized manner
  • Provide assistance in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of hydrologic, geologic, and chemical data obtained during investigations
  • Assist in preparing project plans and technical reports related to investigation and remediation activities (boring logs, data tables, geologic cross sections)
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline. 
  • 1 to 3 years of experience working as a Geologist. 
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work overtime (as needed) in both office and field, including overnight travel.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Adobe)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Support Project Manager throughout WSP
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in geology/ hydrogeology/hydrology/earth sciences
  • OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER training, DOT training, CPR and First Aid training, and other
  • Has documented and recorded aquifer test data and used appropriate techniques for aquifer test analysis  unication, technical writing and research skills
  • Experience conducting phase I environmental site assessments #LI-BJ1
