WSP is currently initiating a search for a Environmental Scientist/Air Monitoring Specialist for our Arvada or Greenwood Village, CO office.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Monitor air quality conditions.
  • MUST have certifications: OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training, State of Colorado certified Asbestos Building Inspector (BI), and Air Monitoring Specialist (AMS)
  • Provide field oversight of subcontractors and asbestos abatement activity.
  • Document and record field data and observations in a clear and organized manner; regularly prepare daily logs and other forms from the field.
  • Coordinate field activities and schedules with the team in a clear, professional manner.
  • Demonstrate the ability to implement safe work practices in the field in accordance with the health and safety plan and other applicable regulations.
  • Gain working knowledge and understanding of federal and state regulations applicable to project.
  • Evaluate, manage, and interpret field data, make recommendations, and prepare written and verbal reports.
  • Attend meetings and interact with client, team, and regulatory personnel.
  • Collect environmental media samples including soil, sediment, debris, groundwater, air, lead-based paint, and abestos containing builing materials.

Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, or engineering or related discipline with 1 to 2 years of applicable work experience. 
  • Certifications required: OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training, State of Colorado certified Asbestos Building Inspector (BI), and Air Monitoring Specialist (AMS)
  • Certifications desired: State of Colorado certified Lead-Based Paint Inspector (LBP), Methamphetamine Consultant, and certifications/training in mold, indoor air quality, and radon inspections and testing. Contaminated soil/groundwater remediation experience and any other related certifications are a plus.  A general knowledge of construction and building systems is beneficial. Any experience providing health & safety, environmental site assessments, or construction/remediation oversight is also a plus.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures 
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies 
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
  • This role is subject to a client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of the client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
 
Preferred Qualifications
 
  • Fulfillment of the position's responsibilities will require the ability to work locally outside in the field up to 90 percent of the time during the first year, occasionally with the potential for some night and/or Saturday work shifts.
  • Must be able to work both independently, and as part of a team member, with people of differing backgrounds and experience levels.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.

Compensation and Benefits:
WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career.  Expected Salary: $51,300 - 77,000
