WSP is currently initiating a search for a Traffic Engineer for our Buckhead (ATL, GA) office.
 
WSP USA is seeking a talented and motivated  Traffic Engineer  to join our team in Atlanta, Georgia to help us meet our clients’ goals and objectives, solve infrastructure challenges, and positively transform our communities. The selected candidate should have experience working in groups and have a desire to participate in collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment as our Atlanta office also closely works with the transportation & environmental planning, and the Civil/Roadway group. The Traffic Engineer will also work on various tasks for signal design, access management, managed lane studies,  and transit feasibility projects.

Typical projects include, but are not limited to:
  • ITS and Signal Design
  • Intersection and corridor improvement studies
  • Signal phasing and timing optimization studies
  • Interchange modification studies
  • Safety studies (accident analysis, collision diagrams)
  • Multi-modal studies involving interactions between vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic
  • Micro-simulation analyses/modeling
  • Transit planning studies
  • Tasks will be performed under close guidance of a supervisor and will include, but are not restricted to:
  • Completion of conceptual and final signal design plans
  • Collection, organization, research & assembly of project data
  • Technical analysis of data
  • Interpreting results and identifying engineering issues based on analysis
  • Traffic projections for future year no-build and build scenarios
  • Analysis of improvement alternatives
  • Creating Synchro and VISSIM simulation models to evaluate alternatives
  • Writing technical reports summarizing conclusions and recommendations

Required Qualifications
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering an accredited institution
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in both public and private traffic engineering projects.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification.
  • Experience working in groups and a desire to participate in collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment
  • Experience in CADD software including Microstation and Bentley products
  • Hands-on experience with common traffic engineering software including HCS+, Synchro/Sim Traffic and VISSIM. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Power Point at a minimum.
  • Candidates with any skill and experience in travel demand modeling software (VISUM, TransCAD, Cube, etc.);
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Other duties as required by business needs
  • Basic programing (macros) and ArcGIS, will be considered ahead of candidates without these skills.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • PE (Professional Engineer in Georgia) License is preferred
  • A Masters degree in Civil Engineering with a Traffic Engineering focus is preferred
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Working Conditions and/or Physical Demands
The Traffic Engineer must have the ability to work indoors as well as perform outdoor field work as demanded by project tasks. Incumbents must effectively communicate by electronic mail, instant message, face-to-face discussions, and in collaboration with work groups or teams.
