WSP is currently initiating a search for a Bridge Engineer-In-Training for our Austin, TX office. Be involved in projects with our Bridge Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Job Description:

•       Entry Level position to perform engineering analysis, design and inspection of transportation structures such as bridges and retaining walls and assist with routine bridge inspections. Position requires knowledge and application of basic engineering principles under close supervision; work is reviewed for adequacy and accuracy. Position also requires some time for travel and working outside.  Typical duties may include the following:

o   Assists with the evaluation, development, design, or selection of required structures.

o   Performs analysis and design calculations for structures.

o   Calculates estimated quantities and cost estimates for structures.

o   Provides guidance to CADD technicians for the development of structural design plans.

o   Reviews fabricator/contractor working drawings.

o   Researches applicable design codes and guidelines to ensure design compliance.

o   Researches design options and documents findings.

o   Coordinates assignments with project team and supervisor.

o   May use MicroStation CADD to perform engineering tasks.

o   Assist with inspection of bridges.

Minimum Qualifications:

•       Bachelor's degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

•       Masters degree with a focus on Structural Engineering

•       Engineer-In-Training Certification or Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam

Desired Attributes:

•       Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.

•       Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.

•       Knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

•       Familiar with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications

•       Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

•       Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.

•       Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.

•       Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.

•       Experience with relevant design software (i.e., MathCad, Excel, MicroStation, OpenRoads, Geopak, ANSYS, STADD, SAP, LARSA, MIDAS).

•       Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.

•       Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

•       Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
