Our Program Management & Construction Management (PMCM) group is seeking a Construction Inspection Intern - Summer 2024 to work out of our Indianapolis, IN office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2024 or later.

This 12 week internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program that is scheduled to start on May 20th, 2024. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.

Your Impact

  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, plans, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, materials sampling, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for field inspection activities.    
  • Assist with performing basic professional inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, construction, materials, controls, resources, layout, alignment, and elevation to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and construction or operating permits.
  • Assist with verifying construction quantities, change orders, interpretation of contract plans and specifications, and escalating any differences, errors, or technical problems for appropriate resolution.    
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation related to inspection findings to Comply with client policies and procedures for inspection work under contract.
  • Comply with client and regulatory policies and procedure for inspection work under contract.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Construction Engineering & Management Technology (CEMT), Construction Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Water Resources Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related Undergraduate program.
  • Demonstrated interest in Construction Inspection, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • General awareness of construction principles and field inspection practices.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Construction Engineering & Management Technology (CEMT), Construction Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Water Resources Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related Masters or PhD program.
  • Experience in Surveying.
  • Experience using design software such AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar.
  • Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.
