WSP USA’s Power & Energy group has a need for an Electrical Engineer with experience in large scale energy and power systems including wind, solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), combined heat and power, microgrid systems, C&I scale solar PV systems, electric vehicle infrastructure, hydrogen,and waste-to-energy. The candidate will work under direct supervision of senior engineers and project managers and will perform a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard electrical design techniques for large and small scale energy projects.  Core activities may include design, preparation of equipment specifications, preparation of calculations and modeling, equipment selection and evaluation, reporting and optimization. 

Your Impact

  • This candidate will work under direct supervision of senior engineers and will perform a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard engineering and design techniques for large scale solar PV, wind, battery energy storage, pumped storage, electric vehicle, and clean energy projects.
  • Core activities may include design and engineering, preparation of equipment specifications, preparation of calculations and modeling,
  • Provide electrical engineering design support to senior engineers with electrical design of LV and MV systems for wind, solar and battery storage projects
  • Support senior engineers with interconnection applications, electrical and power systems studies including: short circuit, arc flash, load flow, etc.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or electrical engineering issues or problems. 
  • Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular design and construction problem or issue and/or to plan for future needs.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in a design and engineering role working with utility scale renewable energy projects, Battery Energy Storage Systems, MicroGrids, and/or Clean Energy projects.
  • Familiarity with electrical system modeling tools including CymCap, ETAP, WinIGS, and PSSE
  • Ability to travel to project sites in the US and Canada regularly (up to 20%) and possibly to other international sites
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) certification
  • Experience and familiarity with AutoCAD MEP or AutoCAD Electrical
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science (MS) degree in electrical engineering or other related degree
  • PE licensure 
  • Experience with EasyPower, ASPEN, PSLF, ArcPro and PSCAD

Expected Salary: $77,600-$124,100
