This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a an Environmental Remediation Engineer for our Kansas City, MO office.  The following locations will also be considered:  St. Louis, MO and Minneapolis, MN.  Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.   The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work large scale remediation projects, across a broad range of practice areas delivering remediation consulting, design and implementation services to our key clients. 

Your Impact

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to evaluate, select, and design site remedies involving contaminated soil, groundwater, and vapor.
  • Lead and manage site investigation and remediation projects and teams.
  • Develop environmental remediation cost estimates and proposals. 
  • Understand remediation system design and be able to guide junior engineers and subcontractors to diagnose and repair remediation systems.
  • Record, evaluate, and interpret data, prepare reports and work plans, and provide analysis and interpretations of findings.
  • Perform hands-on field implementation of site remedies, bench-scale and pilot-scale studies, remediation system operation and maintenance, contaminated media sampling, and contractor oversight.  
  • Supervise and direct various contractors while conducting site work.
  • Perform environmental construction monitoring and documentation.
  • Review and stamp/certify technical reports submitted to clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide assistance in evaluating compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
  • Perform site inspections and prepare or supervise the preparation of SPCC Plans, FRP, ERAP, SWPPP, and other related planning documents.
  • Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of environmental data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level threat mitigation activities.
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
  • Remain current in latest environmental engineering techniques.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required; ability to obtain additional state licenses within 6 months if requested. NCEES certification a plus.
  • Valid US driver’s license and ability to travel independently by air and land up to 30% of the time.
  • AutoCAD, Civil3D and/or ArcGIS experience a plus. 
  • Environmental permitting and permit compliance experience a plus.
  • Certifications desired: OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training, OSHA 8 Hour HAZWOPER Refresher Training, DOT Training,
  • CPR and First Aid Training, and other related environmental certifications.  
  • Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring hazardous materials management.
  • Participation in an OSHA-mandated medical surveillance program will be required, and safety training will be provided before being assigned to work on these sites.  Applicants must be able to wear a full-face respirator.
  • Basic knowledge of U.S. environmental laws and regulations, international experience a plus. 
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems independently to meet internal and external deadlines.
  • Self-sufficient, self-motivated and ability to work under pressure of deadlines. 
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member with people of differing backgrounds and experience, sometimes located in multiple offices.
  • Ability and willingness to mentor junior staff.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
  • This role is subject to a client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of the client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
