This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time  Resident Engineer for our Chicago, IL office.  Be involved in projects with our PM/CM Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. .

Your Impact

  • Must be knowledgeable of various client construction specifications and contract management. 
  • Supervise, develop and train field staff and other construction support staff assigned to a project.  
  • Supervise and conduct the inspection and review of work in accordance with applicable codes and standards included in the project drawings and specifications  
  • Responsible for field engineering, contract administration, inspection, testing, surveying, and quality control on one large or several small construction projects. 
  • Verify and review project documentation for acceptance including pay applications, change orders, submittals, shop drawings, cost reduction proposals, traffic control modifications, and others.   
  • Act as the primary point of contact between the client, project team, and contractors. 
  • Manage the construction management team, including sub-consultants. 
  • Review and make recommendations for contractors' project schedules and non-conforming work 
  • Attends and may lead construction meetings with client and contractors 
  • Meeting with prospective clients to learn about future CM pursuit opportunities 
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering-related field experience 
  • A minimum of 7 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles (or equivalent working knowledge/experience)   
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret contract documents  
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials 
  • Demonstrable experience with local client interactions
  • Effective oral and written communication skills 
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies  
  • Valid drivers’ license 
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
