WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Construction Inspector for our Herndon, VA office and located in the Fredericksburg VA Area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ability to interpret roadway and bridge plans, building plans, specifications, and contracts
  • Recognizes construction problems and applies standard techniques and procedures to solve the problem
  • May recommend field changes to drawings and specifications
  • Keeps detailed records of contractor’s performance and progress
  • Ability to work as a team member without close supervision. May supervise field inspection staff, directing and assigning specific tasks
  • Ability to prepare clear technical, financial, administrative and explanatory correspondences
  • Reviews and approves daily inspection reports and project documentation
  • Creates/maintains daily inspection reports and project documentation
  • Maintains daily contact with client and contractors to discuss construction activities
  • Attends construction meetings with client and contractors.
  • Oversees materials testing activities
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the management of roadway, building and/or infrastructure construction inspection projects
  • Considerable knowledge of materials, methods and practices involved in heavy civil highway projects
  • Working knowledge of Locally Administered Project’s (LAP), and VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Road and Bridge Standards, Construction Manual, and Inspector Manuals
  • Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environment guidelines and regulations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with owners, architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors
  • Knowledge of the use of electronic data processing equipment and contract management software
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license in accordance with WSP USA Inc. Human Resources policy
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • This role is subject to a client mandated fingerprint-based Criminal History background check and DMV record check prior to commencement of any assigned VDOT work.
  • Valid driver's license required and must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current VDOT or Mid-Atlantic Regional Technician Certification Program certifications including knowledge of bridge construction, pipeline, and utilities construction methods, materials, standards and specifications
  • College coursework
  • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level II or higher
  • VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control Training/Certification
  • SWM/ESC Dual Inspector Certification as designated by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VA DEQ)
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I
