WSP is currently initiating a search for a Sr. Business Intelligence Developer to join our New York office who will work on Data Analytics for our client projects throughout the U.S. 

Your Impact

  • Use of report writing software for the development of reports, such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power BI
  • Preparation of project status reports, such as annual, monthly and ad-hoc schedule and cost reports, contract awards and construction services, critical variance etc.,
  • Supporting the system process and framework to manage design and construction
  • Prioritization and analysis of projects within strict timelines,
  • Identification and resolution of data integrity issues,
  • Working with management and staff across the department to identify user needs,
  • Support the improvement and revision of existing reporting processes and procedures,
  • Preparation of technical & training documentation and presentations, including the identification and application of new industry reporting and data organization trends,
  • Development of high-level reports.
  • Provide oversight with sourcing, collecting, compiling, and analyzing structured and unstructured data from the field work, surveys, blueprints, spreadsheets, financial reports, computer-generated reports, and other matrices and disparate sources for projects.    
  • Perform professional data scientist work with identifying and working on the more-involved, complex data-analytics problems that offer the greatest opportunities to the project and business, market sector, and organization.
  • Oversee the development and incorporation of advanced technology, modeling techniques, algorithms, concept development, load/pricing calculations, new experimental frameworks, and analytical strategies to mine stores of big data, identify patterns and trends, and form hypotheses. 
  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional team(s) of data scientists, engineers, planners, and other professionals to oversee and execute project work on multiple concurrent projects for internal and external clients, leading and reviewing efforts of quantitative research, modeling, analysis that support addressing future-ready business opportunities, issues, and actionable results.
  • Apply a high level of data quality throughout all stages of acquisition and processing, including such areas as advanced data sourcing/collection, ground truth generation, normalization, transformation, cleaning, validating, and cross-lingual alignment/mapping, etc.
  • Involved from project inception to completion in the management of larger-scale and complex data science projects  ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when, preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees.
  • Meet with various internal, external, public or private entities or individuals to discuss issues relating to a variety of data science challenges and programs. 
  • Oversee the design, development, evaluation and release of highly innovative models that elevate the customer experience and track impact over time.
  • Oversee efforts to create data dashboards and other data visualization tools that aggregate information and track progress to inform continuous quality improvement against featured KPIs and metrics, and maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurement, statistical analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist with development and scoping of larger-scale projects.
  • Provide leadership oversight, guidance, training and mentoring to data scientists to support their growth and professional development. 
  • Oversee the preparation of comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, concepts, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address project issues or opportunities, and manage risk. 
  • Successfully manage and oversee internal and external relationships to ensure client delivery and company growth.
  • Support project management teams with preparation, delivery and close out of projects.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of WSP business, vision, and market sectors, overseeing the completion of professional deliverables on projects, marketing efforts, and business development proposals. 
  • Develop a client base for providing high level data science services to internal and external clients.
  • Drive compliance with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, clients, and other stakeholders in a confident and professional manner.
  • Remain current in latest data science techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Data Analysis, Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant post education experience in data science/analysis. 
  • Professional Certifications such as CCA, MCSE, Certified Analytics Professional.
  • Advanced proficiency with business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau), and big data technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Spark). 
  • Extensive knowledge of computer programming databases, coding and testing (e.g. SQL).
  • Extensive experience with data management practices, performing exploratory data analyses, and employing research techniques. 
  • Strong system analysis skills – data interpretation and explanation of condition, trends etc.
  • Excellent oral, written and communication skills.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Excel, Power BI and other data visualization tools. VBA is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Experienced with support of project management, and financial reporting systems.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.

  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of data science and math principles, understanding plans and objectives, and making appropriate factual comparisons. 
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, and effectively articulating complex data in a simple, actionable manner.
  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
  • Highly effective self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Highly effective at working independently and providing guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Highly proficient with statistics and predictive models.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel. 
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Working experience with a large public government agency or utility is a plus
  • Engineering / Construction Experience helpful
