This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Project Manager for our Washington, DC project office.  Be involved in projects with our Transportation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

In a matrixed environment, this position leads a multi-disciplinary team to respond to public transit agency requests. After developing a winning team and proposal, serves as the Project Manager and/or Task Lead to be the Client Representative on a Progressive Design and Build Construction project.  This position is has high responsibilities, including managerial and supervisory, and requires an effective team leader who can manage/mentor project team members and foster a working environment where  project staff can work together cooperatively to deliver the project on-time and on-budget. This important role requires the successful candidate to interface with both the client organization, design build contractor, and WSP's Management/Program Director. This position would be best suited to a results-orientated manager that can work in accordance with the project procedures, define team goals, and guide the WSP project staff towards success.

Your Impact

  • During execution of the work, ensures all client expectations are met.
  • Manages the project in accordance with Project Management best practices and WSP procedures and policies.  
  • Conducts meaningful and high-level engagements with clients to ensure project success and develop a trusting and lasting relationship.
  • Engages subconsultants and partner consultants to build relationships and winning teams with the most applicable and competitive skills relevant to upcoming task order RFPs.
  • Interprets technically complex task order RFPs to ensure the proposal team fully understands the requirements and the needs of the client.  
  • As part of a larger team, helps devise a winning strategy staffed with the best professionals from across the company.
  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
  • Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to assigned staff.
  • Remain current in latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • 12+ years of experience delivering technical engineering and/or construction projects for public or private sector clients.
  • Experience to include 7+ years of demonstrated experience managing large projects and experience in the design and construction of bus or rail maintenance facilities.
  • Confident and capable of engaging clients to build positive relationships and demonstrate technical acumen.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing project site based construction and engineering staff.
  • Direct experience managing and working with stakeholders and contractors on large with design-build contracts. 
  • Proven ability to manage complex budgets and schedules.
  • Experience working in a public sector.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree.
  • PMP certification or PE licensure.
  • Experience working for and/or with a public transit agency that provides heavy transit rail and fixed route bus service.
  • Technical experience and general understanding of heavy transit infrastructure to include rail bridges, various transit tunnel types, special trackwork, traction power systems, fixed block signal systems with cab signals, rail and bus facilities.
