WSP is initiating a search for a full-time Traffic Engineer to join our strong and dedicated team of local and national traffic experts in our Indianapolis, Indiana office. Your Impact

  • Serve as task manager for multiple traffic engineering projects.
  • Work on signal design, pavement marking and signing, ITS design, and other traffic engineering projects for INDOT and other clients.
  • Perform technical analysis using Synchro, HCS, Sidra, VISSIM, and other traffic engineering analysis software.
  • Work on traffic analyses and crash analyses for INDOT and municipal projects.
  • Complete safety and traffic studies including corridor improvement studies and interchange modification studies.
  • Perform professional traffic engineering work and conduct investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
  • Develop and design innovative concepts for strategic intersection and corridor improvements, including near term initiatives and longer-term capital improvement projects and studies that require coordination with authorities, sub-consultants, and clients.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
  • Interface with staff from a range of other disciplines to support a diverse range of projects.
  • May also support design-build or other traffic engineering projects as needed.
  • Work well individually and with cross-functional teams of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, technical calculations, construction, compliance documentation, and technical analysis memos.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Remain current in latest traffic engineering techniques and practices.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers, planners, and DOT authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded road and transportation improvement and development projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

 Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 3 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior traffic design experience.
  • Engineer in Training Certification
  • A strong background in transportation planning, traffic engineering design and client/project management 
  • Proficient and extensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, process, and design/build related to traffic control equipment, capacity and operational analysis, project management, and related communications systems.
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering software (HCS, Synchro, Sidra, VISSIM).
  • Microstation proficiency.
  • Prior demonstrated knowledge and experience of INDOT requirements and procedures.
  • Proficient with technical writing and documentation.
  • Ability to work in a corporate environment, communicating with a wide range of professional skill sets.
  • Work cooperatively with staff to effectively deliver projects on deadlines, including coordinating with multiple staff working on multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer.
