This Opportunity

WSP has an exciting career opportunity for a motivated team player to fulfill the role of a Senior Highway Engineer. Will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge 3D roadway modeling software. We have a significant backlog of transportation work for a position based in our Pittsburgh, PA office located in the heart of Pittsburgh’s Central Business District easily accessed by public transit.   Flexible work environment to include office/home hybrid work.   WSP Pittsburgh is a leader in the Transportation industry, serving state and local DOT's, as well as private clients. The Pittsburgh Transportation Engineering team also supports other offices throughout Pennsylvania and the eastern United States, working not only on Transportation projects, but other related disciplines as well. We are looking for an experienced Civil Engineer who can work within a design team. A Pennsylvania Professional Engineer’s license (or ability to obtain within 1 year) is desired.    Our team is known for innovation and outstanding customer service and will continue to build on these values. Your Impact

  • Responsible for performing roadway or highway design tasks for projects of moderate to large size and complexity under the supervision and guidance of highly qualified senior transportation engineers.
  • Technical assignments may include roadway and highway geometrics, drainage system design, erosion and sediment pollution control plans, stormwater management, traffic analysis and design, barrier warrant analyses, maintenance of traffic, municipal engineering, general civil/site development, and other related tasks.
  • Designs will be performed primarily with the use of MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer 3-D modelling software to prepare plans.
  • Additional assignments will include developing preliminary design studies and project reports, preparing specifications, preparing final construction plans, completing quantity take-offs and cost estimates, and checking design computations.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subconsultants, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Remain current in latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering degree
  • 5-7 years of roadway design experience
  • Engineer-In-Training Certificate
  • Proficient knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve engineering problems
  • Our ideal candidate has experience with roadway design software which may include MicroStation and Open Roads Designer 3D Modeler
  • Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word experience
  • Willingness and ability to work collaboratively and communicate as part of a diverse design team
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated maturity in judgment and initiative
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Licensed PE in Pennslyvannia
  • Experience with PennDOT and Pennslyvania Turnpike Commission policies
