This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Consultant Geo-Environmental Engineer experienced with geotechnical engineering, solid waste management, and/or grading to join our Civil, Ground Engineering & Materials team in Charlotte, NC.  Experience with solid waste permitting and design will be beneficial, however is not required.  This individual will be part of our Southeast Region supporting energy, industrial, and municipal clients on waste management and GeoEnvironmental construction and engineering projects.  

The position relies on technical experience and capabilities combined with organization and communication skills to work with established teams to continue successfully executing work. You will support existing GeoEnvironmental design project teams working directly with the project managers, engineering technicians, design engineers, and clients. 

Working with the existing teams, you will help maintain a standard of excellence in delivering a quality project on time and within budget.  This position will focus on technical work with the ability to grow into project management. WSP has a comprehensive training and certification program for project managers, as well as mentoring and cross collaboration opportunities. 

Your Impact

  • Understanding corporate/office health and safety expectations and leading project safety by example
  • Supporting design teams in developing solutions to clients’ needs
  • Preparing design calculations, drawings, specifications, construction quality assurance plans, and technical reports
  • Developing toward becoming a project manager and technical lead. 

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering
  • 1+ years of engineering experience
  • Having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering examination 
  • Proficiency with slope stability and settlement analyses
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal (WSP) and external stakeholders
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from test results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to plan for team success

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. in geotechnical engineering
  • Knowledge of drainage design and erosion and sediment control 
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience with permitting solid waste facilities
  • Having passed the Professional Engineering examination
