This position supports senior technical staff, engineers, and project managers to design mechanical systems for complex transportation and infrastructure, projects nationwide.  Tasks may include research, concept development, design, and construction phase support for a wide variety of unique infrastructure projects that enhance local communities.  You will contribute to complex and concise reports and documentation defining programming, construction, and operational requirement.  You will participate in delivery or products that exceed industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact

·       Your role will evolve to leverage your particular interests and abilities.

·       Support delivery of mechanical engineering projects for transportation, industrial, institutional projects which may include railroad, aviation, marine, transit, parking, stormwater, or bridge infrastructure.

·       Contribute to some of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects nationwide including zero emission transit bus and rail facilities, airport air and landside facilities, pump stations, or port facilities.

·       Design of air distribution, hydronic distribution, plumbing, fire protection and/or special systems and selection of major equipment.

·       Influence concepts and development of automated control and monitoring systems.

·       Enable construction activities with engineering services during construction.

·       Support Client objectives representing WSP in client meetings.

·       Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

·       Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.

·       1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience.

·       Familiarity with mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues. 

·       Familiarity with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.

·       Familiar with relevant mechanical system and construction codes, regulations, practices, and record-keeping requirements.

·       Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement and initiative in evaluating situations and making decisions. 

·       Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

·       Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

·       Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

·       Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.

·       Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit, Word, Excel, or others as applicable).

·       Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Engineer in Training Certification.

·       Prior design experience.

·       Experience with one or more of the following categories of facilities:  Vehicular, transit; rail; aviation; industrial; or educational facilities.

·       A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
