This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Transportation Planner. The ideal candidate would be based in our San Francisco or Oakland, CA office. WSP also has other locations in Northern California that could be considered and WSP has a flexible working office policy

The Northern California team is made up of a set of planners who are dedicated to making our local communities and neighborhoods more accessible and equitable for all by improving mobility options with seamless and efficient transportation networks. WSP is looking to grow our Planning team for several high-profile, interesting projects in the Bay Area and Sacramento regions. Join our team as a Transportation Planner and work collaboratively with dynamic colleagues across planning and engineering, and help shape the future of Northern California transportation!

The ideal candidate will develop planning efforts to create plans for the safe movement of people through all modes of transport; to optimize transportation systems; and to account for the economic, social, and environmental impact of projects and initiatives.  Tasks may include providing support and guidance to project leadership for multi-site/phase or multi-modal planning projects; preparing feasibility studies, corridor studies, and station area plans; and defining public involvement plans for a variety of client projects relating to equitable transportation, transportation demand management, mobility planning, multimodal access, surface transportation, and funding applications.  

Your Impact

Prepare and assist with completing station area plans, community plans, corridor studies, and comprehensive plans for assigned projects, with an emphasis on transportation and multimodal projects.  This work may include preparing data and visuals (charts, infographics, models and/or 3D illustrations for presentations and existing conditions, data interpretation for analysis or assessments, developing findings or recommendations; preparation of technical memos, meeting minutes and presentations to summarize research with findings and conclusions. 

  • Read, interpret, compose, and review Planning Reports, and other technical documents.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
  • Remain current in latest transportation planning subject matter, practices, regulations, and techniques.
  • Learn and keep relevant awareness of transportation issues and priorities of WSP clients and stakeholders.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field (or equivalent experience.)
  • 1-3+ years of experience working in the transportation planning field, actively engaging in general plans, specific/master plans, corridor studies, and public involvement, for a variety of client
  • projects relating to equitable transportation development, transportation demand management, mobility planning, multimodal access, surface transportation, and funding. 
  • Experience with the transportation project development cycle; from planning to implementation.
  • Competent analytical skills and prior experience with research techniques, local/regional geography, transportation networks, systems, and modalities.
  • Experience with discipline-specific software (i.e., CAD, ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-Up).
  • Proficiency with technical business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Planning or related field is preferred.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $80,000- $95,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
