This Opportunity

WSP has an immediate need for an Associate Vice President with a specialization in Sustainable Buildings to join Built Ecology, WSP’s growing buildings sustainability practice. This position will work out of WSP's offices in Denver, CO or Boulder, CO. The individual will grow and strengthen our team by securing, staffing, managing, and delivering complex projects and client-facing engagements. Candidates should be passionate about sustainability, exhibit technical knowledge in Sustainable Buildings and demonstrate leadership skills and ability to deliver high‐quality products through appropriate time and priority management while leveraging resources and removing barriers and obstacles for the project team.

Built Ecology is WSP’s US buildings sustainability practice, providing a broad range of services including sustainability strategy and planning, goal setting and workshop facilitation, high-performance design assistance, complex building performance analysis, building certifications, energy and GHG master planning, and building performance verification. We work across a wide range of project types and scales, from master planning and district infrastructure to building design and construction, to ongoing performance and operations. Built Ecology has been directly responsible for driving many leading projects across the globe, including LEED Platinum buildings, Living Building Challenge and WELL projects, Net Zero energy and water projects, EcoDistricts, corporate green building programs, and decarbonization of large building portfolios.  Our solutions are typically innovative, integrated, data-driven, and practical.

Your Impact

  • Lead clients, project stakeholders, and multidisciplinary project teams through the process of establishing goals, understanding strategies, and implementing sustainability solutions that are achievable and impactful
  • Working with project managers to lead sustainability strategy and certification tasks on a wide variety of projects 
  • Provide strategic and technical sustainability support to building design and construction teams
  • Develop and oversee the production of clear, comprehensive, and detailed deliverables
  • Supervise and mentor team members in-person and/or virtually 
  • Have a leadership presence in the industry and provide subject matter expertise within WSP 
  • Support continued improvement of team resources and processes  

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a building design, building science or sustainability discipline, including Architecture, Engineering, Building Science or similar
  • 10+ years of professional experience, sustainability, green building consulting, and third-party green building rating systems (e.g. LEED, LBC, Enterprise Green Communities, Passive House, etc.)
  • Experience managing staff and supporting staff development
  • Knowledge of the building design and construction process, ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings
  • Familiarity with energy codes, stretch codes, and Building Performance Standards focused on energy efficiency, decarbonization, and electrification
  • Knowledge of sustainable products and services
  • Ability to understand and coordinate energy, daylight, comfort, and other modeling deliverables 
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Attention to detail and highly organized
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and multi-task, coordinating activities across many projects
  • LEED Accredited Professional

Compensation


Expected Salary (all locations): $92,500 - $165,000


WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $92,500 - $160,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
