This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Bridge Engineer for our Salt Lake City, UT office. Be involved in projects with our Bridge Structures Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Provides technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and/or construction infrastructure projects in the public sector. Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements, such as bridges, signs, walls, and associated transportation facilities. Generates accurate and concise reports, plans, specifications, and, estimates. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality.

Your Impact

Design

  • Perform engineering techniques on a variety of assignments for structural elements under supervision.
  • Review submittals and shop drawings
  • Prepare design calculations for projects.
  • Prepare load ratings.
  • Perform project-specific analyses.
  • Prepare necessary plans, specifications, estimates, and technical memorandums.

Analytics

  • Utilize technical knowledge to propose creative solutions and solve complex technical problems.
  • Compile reports.
  • Develop an understanding of project finances.
  • Assist in developing schedules and objectives for the project and/or work of field staff.
  • Use necessary computer software tools and applications to solve difficult engineering problems.
  • Perform work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule.

Collaboration

  • Coordinate closely with the team on projects, as well as other disciplines as needed, to support client needs.
  • Coordinate and manage tasks within projects.
  • Participate in structural or project-related team meetings.
  • Seek to develop client relationships.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Other duties as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.
  • Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) Certification having completed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, MDX, CSiBridge, LPile, InRoads, Geopak, Eriksson Culvert, LARSA, Leap Bridge, MathCad, Excel, OpenRoads).
  • Knowledge and background use of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) Bridge Design Specifications and AASHTO Guide Specifications for LRFD Seismic Bridge Design Manuals.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • Experience with local UDOT projects.
  • Basic CADD skills using MicroStation.
