This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a full time Building Technology Systems Engineer for our Building Technology Solutions group at WSP located out of our Arlington, VA office. 

Be involved in projects with our Building Technology Systems Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

This opportunity provides support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the design of communications distribution projects in the public and private sector.  Tasks may include basic assistance with the research, concept development, design, and optimal integration of intelligent technologies using a structured cable plant, serving building capabilities including data networks, access control, video surveillance, audiovisual systems, and smart building systems.  Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding assigned equipment, integration, and operation specifications.  Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality for building inhabitants.

Your Impact

  • Provide designs for telecommunications systems (Structured cabling systems, telecom spaces, and pathway infrastructure) and other related disciplines such as electronic security, audiovisual, and data network systems.
  • Coordinate with clients to gather and document system and design requirements.
  • Create design narratives and coordinated, construction documents (Drawings and CSI Specifications).
  • Complete deliverables including technical drawings in REVIT.
  • Participate in project meetings (local and out-of-town) with the design team and clients.
  • Participate in construction meetings, review and respond to submittals and RFIs
  • Perform site surveys to document construction progress.
  • Coordinate integration of telecommunications systems with other intelligent building systems. (BMS, Lighting controls, AV etc.)
  • Understanding of local and national codes and industry standards (NEC, IBC, NFPA, BICSI, TIA) related to the design and operation of Building Technology Systems

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Possess a four-year degree (B.S. in engineering is preferred) or equivalent combination of technical degree and related work experience designing technology systems for buildings.
  • 1-3 years experience actively designing Telecommunications systems for the AEC consulting and engineering industry. Integrator or specialty consultant experience would also be considered.
  • Experience related to Electronic Security, Audiovisual, DAS and/or Data Network/Wi-Fi/Telephony is a big plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on the ability to organize priorities.
  • The ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365 software.
  • Experience working directly with clients including architects and building owners.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Design experience for Telecommunications systems for buildings" projects of various types and sizes. (Healthcare, Commercial office, Hospitality, Science and Technology, Federal Projects, High rise Residential, Mission Critical)
  • Autodesk REVIT experience.
  • Active security clearance.
  • Industry certification (ASIS CPP, BICSI RCDD, AVIXA CTS/-D, Cisco CCNA, etc.).  A desire and plan for achieving certification is important.
