This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Consultant - Fire & Life Safety (Fire Sprinkler Designer) for one of the following offices: Seattle - WA, Irvine - CA, Riverside - CA, and San Diego - CA.

This opportunity provides technical assistance for design, development, site survey, and testing & inspecting of fire and life safety systems on building projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, concept development, planning, and optimal integration of automatic fire alarm systems. Additional tasks include assistance with building and fire code analysis review and compliance.  The ideal candidate will be accountable to their tasks and ensure that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Assist with the design of automatic fire sprinkler systems.
  • Knowledge of BIM, CAD, REVIT for Low-Level complexity projects as appropriate.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of NFPA, FM Global, Building and Fire Code Standards.  
  • Executes directions as provided by engineers and management.
  • Performs coordination by reviewing drawings supplied by vendors, other team engineers and architects while 
    implementing design modifications as necessary.
  • With assistance, gathers appropriate resources in order to assist in problem solutions.
  • Assists engineers and management by resourcing input on staffing allocations to meet business needs.
  • Believes in and champions the firms’ core values and inspires others to do the same.
  • Supports creative thinking and innovation that adds value at the discipline level.
  • Communicates engineering concepts and ideas, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates the ability to react to client (internal/external) needs and expectations, while developing skills in 
    proactive communication.
  • Assist in the commissioning of fire life safety systems. 

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Related Bachelors or Associates Degree in Fire Protection Technology, Drafting, Engineering or Architectural; or equivalent years of experience. 
  • 3 to 5 years of fire alarm and life safety experience
  • Knowledge of REVIT and AutoCAD
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NICET Level II or III Water-Based Systems Layout
  • AUTODESK Certified Professional
  • Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related discipline.  
  • Experience in fire protection engineering design applications
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.

Compensation


Expected Salary (all locations): $85,100 - $100,100


WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
