This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Data Scientist/Developer (SQL & GIS) for our Baltimore office.  The following remote locations will also be considered: Washington, DC.  Be involved in projects with our Transportation - Digital Services Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

Our successful candidate will work closely with our dynamic team of transportation, transit, and ITS engineers, architects, business analysts and GIS professionals.  WSP is seeking long-term career-oriented employee; someone who is flexible to learn new tools, enthusiastic, communicates well verbally and in writing, and enjoys talking with project managers to troubleshoot and solve unique challenges for transportation network, data, and systems.  We are looking for the ideal candidate who has succesful experience in winning and delivering work, discussing and preparing scopes of work and cost budgets with internal and external clients, and someone who is a people and team-oriented, and readiness to help build a practice and expand work opportunities everyday.

Your Impact

  • Hands-on software development solutions for R-Shiny, PowerBI, Tableau dashboard, Python, SQL development, with understanding of Javascript and Open Source GIS development frameworks
  • Hands-on knowledge of enterprise Geodatabase (PostGIS, MSSQL, or Oracle) design, deployment, operations and maintenance, model builder, Python scripting, data ETL and full suite of spatial data analytics (Network, Spatial, 3D, Geoanalytics, Operational Analytics)
  • Ability to translate business/functional requirements to functional software development process
  • Ability to complete assignments on-time and budget, discuss risk/benefit, develop or review the following materials:  use cases, statistics, database schemas, test cases, implementation guides, users guides, administration guides
  • Successfully work as part of an integral team member in english written and oral formats

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • 0-1 years proven experience in SQL, R, Python software development and data science skillsets and Agile mindset
  • BS degree in Geography, Transportation Planning, Computer Science/IT related field, or Transportation Engineering (specializing in Enterprise-scale GIS and GIS solutions integration and development)
  • Development background and in depth experience with SQl, R-Shiny, Python languages 
    PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL, MSSQL, Hadoop, or Oracle geodatabase design and data structures
  • Working knowledge of Eclipse Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and GIT
  • Working knowledge of current application UI standards (HTML, CSS and human interfaces)
  • Key leadership roles in software development team and application development deliverables
  • Understanding of Transportation market, client requirements and datasets
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of software project management (including budget/schedule requirements and effects on development methods and associated architectures)
  • Preference for GISP current certitification
  • Preference for additional skills with GIS development including geodatabase design/deployment, ESRI and Open Source
  • GIS development capabilities and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
