This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Junior Environmental Engineer for our Blue Bell PA office.  The following locations will also be considered: Philadelphia, PA, Bristol, PA, Lawrenceville NJ,  Morristown, NJ, Somerset, NJ, and Marlton, NJ.  Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

Your Impact

Under general supervision, collect and compile environmental data from samples of air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices for engineering analysis.
Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements.
Assist with performing basic professional environmental engineering work relating to air emission sources, hazardous or solid waste facilities, water supply facilities, industrial and agricultural facilities, pollution sources, existing site conditions, water resource, and underground storage tanks.
Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site, providing entry-level technical assistance on various environmental issues.
Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, statistical documentation, and logbooks.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Civil, Chemical or Environmental Engineering or related field.  MS in engineering a plus.
  • 0-1 year of experience in civil or environmental engineering.
  • Office activities including engineering evaluations, cost evaluations, design support, preparation of bid documents and technical reports, submittal reviews, etc.
  • Must be a self-starter, self-reliant.  Sufficient knowledge and experience to identify information needed for engineering and construction tasks, and complete tasks based on their experience and knowledge with assistance from internal senior level staff. 
  • Experience with designing, implementing and monitoring of in-situ remediation remedies is a plus.  Hands on experience with operations and maintenance (O&M) of treatment systems a plus.
  • Field activities including data collection, evaluation and documentation.
  • Construction oversight of subcontractors, as needed.
  • Current sites are in the Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. Support to other WSP offices may require travel throughout these states and the greater northeast and may include overnight travel.
  • Workload is expected to occur 25% in the office and 75% in the field (local and regional with some overnight travel).
  • Candidate may be required to work overtime hours in excess of 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week on a routine or as-needed basis.  This position has straight time overtime eligibility.
  • Strong work ethic and high degree of flexibility and patience to adjust to changing work priorities.
  • Pennsylvania and New York environmental experience is preferred.  New Jersey experience is a plus.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) certification is a plus but not required.
  • Experience in MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Powerpoint is necessary and desire to work with AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator / Fit for Duty Exam / Medical Exam.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening. 
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
