This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Geotechnical Engineer to support our Southern States-West District. The candidate may sit in any of our offices within the District, including: Birmingham, AL and Nashville, TN. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

Your Impact

  • Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of field/site work and laboratory testing
  • Prepare geotechnical data reports
  • Prepare geotechnical calculations and conduct modeling, including slope stability, seepage and consolidation analyses
  • Prepare geotechnical recommendations reports with senior review
  • Serve as a resident engineer / site lead for construction quality assurance
  • Ability to work with a team or with minimal supervision, and with contractors and cross-discipline in-house designers
  • Be willing and able to work on projects involving dams and other retaining structures, lined structures, underground facilities, rock and soil mechanics, and other geotechnical applications
  • Assist with writing reports, cost estimating and permit documents
  • Assist with the preparation of project design packages including technical drawings, specifications, project schedules, and cost estimates

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering
  • 0-1 years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with excellent analytical abilities, leadership ability, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to work both independently and within groups
  • Competence in the Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is necessary
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software - AutoCAD, GINT, Slide, etc.
  • FE/EIT (or ability to obtain EIT within 1 year) required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer in Training Certification
  • Some prior experience in the civil, geological, or mining engineering fields are a plus
  • Master's degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering
