WSP has a career opportunity for an Early Career Structural Engineer position in our Design Center in our Phoenix, AZ or Salt Lake City offices. The primary role of this position is to provide technical and design consulting services related to water infrastructure, including municipal, industrial, mining, commercial, and government clients. This position will work under the supervision of licensed Professional Engineer.

Your Impact

•    Perform analysis and design of structural elements and components both manually and with design software
•    Assist supervising Engineer in field work for data collection, visual inspections, etc. 
•    Collaborate with the supervising Engineer and other design team members on structural design tasks
•    Assist supervising engineer in preparing detailed calculations, drawings, technical specifications, design packages, technical reports, detailed analyses, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes
•    Computer-aided drafting and designing using industry-standard platforms to develop Construction Documents
•    Limited travel to job sites to conduct site investigations and inspections.  Sites may be located outside Arizona or Utah, so applicant must be able to fly on commercial aircraft

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

•    Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university
•    0 – 1 years of experience relevant to water/wastewater treatment plants
•    Taken and passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam and registered as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT), or the ability to sit for and pass this examination within one (1) year from date of hire
•    An understanding of the practical application of structural engineering including applying principles, techniques, and procedures to a project design
•    Knowledge of structural design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models
•    Strong educational achievement commensurate with coursework and academic load
•    Ability to work productively independently and as a member of a project team
•    Proficiency with modeling structural systems using computational software design tools such as RISA, ETABS, STRUDL, STAAD, and/or SAP
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel MS Project and Outlook)
•    Basic knowledge regarding the design of reinforced concrete structures, steel structures and foundation design
•    Excellent written/verbal communication skills
•    Detail and quality oriented
•    Must pass background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Preferred Qualifications:


 •    Master’s Degree with an emphasis/concentration in Structural Engineering
•    Experience using REVIT, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
•    Basic knowledge of seismic design principles
•    Familiarity with finite element modeling software such as ABAQUS, or ANSYS.
•    Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318, and ACI 350
•    Experience with MSHA/OSHA safety regulations preferred
•    Interest in obtaining P.E. or S.E. license within 4 years
