This Opportunity

The Springfield, Illinois office is in search of a Water Resources Engineer. The ideal candidate will be capable of working independently, if needed, and yet have skill sets to provide strong collaborative efforts.

Takes part in providing local technical assistance for the analysis, development, and design of processes and infrastructure relating to water supply, stormwater facilities, irrigation facilities, culverts, hydrology, open channel hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, floodplain modeling/mapping, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, river/stream/habitat restoration and fish passage, pollution control and treatment, and preserving the quality of the environment by averting the contamination and degradation of water resources.  Generates accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Your Impact

  • Takes part in providing technical assistance for the design, development and planning of water resources-related infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector.
  •  Tasks may include basic assistance with the research, design, concept development and computer modeling for flood mitigation and control projects, dams, bridges, levees, roadway drainage, pump stations and general hydrologic and hydraulic flood-related issues.
  •  Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects for each project.  
  • Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, regulatory compliance and functionality.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Perform hydrologic analyses using state-of-the-art geo-referenced modeling techniques and hydraulic analyses through the application of  1- dimensional and 2-dimensional modeling platforms. 
  • Utilize GIS software analyses to develop and support engineering and technical parameters used in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and analyses.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports documenting hydrologic and hydraulic models developed and the results obtained and applied to the specific project demands. 
  • Complete field inspections and prepare corresponding written reports for project sites to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the drainage patterns and controls. 
  • Perform watershed planning studies to achieve flood reduction, water quality and/or ecological benefits. Coordinate as needed with environmental professionals to ensure a comprehensive approach to the specific planning issues. 
  • As part of client support, prepare and submit the requisite applications for permits and support documentation required by the various regulatory agencies which have specific and pertinent jurisdictional purview.  
  • Provide support to other professionals in multiple offices throughout the country.
  • Conduct assignments/projects with a high degree of initiative and independence.
  • Complete tasks on schedule with proper coordination with your manager. 
  • Provide guidance and expertise to company staff and clients to resolve complex water resources related problems and issues.
  • Attend project meetings with senior staff to assist with the presentation and explanation of the water resources aspects of projects.  
  • Accompany a team deployed to state or federally-declared flood disaster areas to assist local officials with damage assessments. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an ABET accredited program in engineering.
    EIT preferred.
  • Familiar with hydrologic model and hydraulic model platforms which involve steady and unsteady 1- and 2-dimensional flow regimes especially HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, XPSWMM, XPSTORM and SRH-2D.
  • Familiar with ESRI ArcGIS software, including 3D Analysis and Spatial Analysis.
  • Detail oriented and a work ethic to achieve high quality results.
  • Familiar with the application of statistical methodologies related to water resources topics. 
  • Strong writing skills related to the preparation of technical reports, inspection reports and supporting technical memos.
  • Focused critical thinking skills related to problem-solving. 
  • Well balanced teaming perspectives to provide for outstanding support, coordination and communication with other staff and clients.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
