This Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking a degreed (or soon to be) Early Career Welding Engineer with interest in structural steel bridges, sign structures, and vertical buildings, to join our team in Jacksonville, FL. This is an office position that requires travel to various fabrication facilities and field locations within the US and in some cases to Canada. A BS degree in Welding Engineering is required, preferably with knowledge and familiarity In American Welding Society’s structural and bridge welding codes. The ideal candidate will be available for employment within the 3rd or 4th Quarter of 2023. The candidate must be capable of rigorous physical activity, willing to travel 60-70% of their time, and have excellent communication skills.

Your Impact

  • Utilize your degree and professional experience to provide input and insight on the welding, heat treatment, coatings, and repair of structural steel (bridge, sign structures, vertical buildings, arenas, tunnels, and transportation hubs) components including filler metal specifications, size and type of welds, and NDT methods for the evaluation of such weldments
  • You may represent the owner of a project which entails monitoring the steel fabrication of bridge girders, expansion joints, bridge bearings, sign structures, drainage structures, steel columns and beams, and other structural components to ensure the compliance with contract documents including approved shop drawings, codes, standards, and specifications
  • You may provide technical writing of the standards related to welding for transportation authorities (DOT’s)
  • Communication and interaction with owners, fabricators, engineers, CWIs, and NDT technicians
  • Writing daily shop / field reports in digital format
  • Participate in WSP safety meetings

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in Welding Engineering
  • Minimum Years of experience: 0-1
  • Some experience performing QA/QC during structural steel fabrication
  • Dependability, honesty, and integrity
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work well independently and with others
  • Decision making skills
  • Self-starter
  • Must be willing to travel as needed, including overnight stays when out of town
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver License
  • Sufficient physical stamina to work long hours indoors and outdoors under various field conditions and exposure to traffic, extreme heat, cold, rainfall, and snow
  • Climbing, bending, crawling, and working in confined spaces and on uneven terrain
  • Ability to lift 25+ lbs
  • Must pass a physical, drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
