This Opportunity

WSP is seeking an Environmental Operation & Maintenance Technician to join our team in Costa Mesa, CA office. The successful candidate will operate, maintain, and monitor performance of groundwater and soil remediation systems, perform sampling of environmental media including soil vapor, soil, and groundwater, and other field tasks in support of environmental remediation projects.  Work will include completing daily reports and logs and may draft simple or standard reports and may have some direct contact with clients.  Works under general supervision of engineers, geologists, and other professionals.

Your Impact

  • Perform construction work including piping and structural components
  • Perform mechanical maintenance of pumps and treatment equipment; changes process unit filters
  • Collect field measurements and readings from operating equipment and field instruments, record those data on field reports, and submit those reports to others
  • Evaluate field measurements and readings, and in consultation with others, make needed adjustments to operating equipment
  • Assist professional staff in procurement and installation of spare parts
  • Collect soil vapor, soil, and groundwater samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary reports
  • Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses, reports, and/or technical drawings
  • Maintain results logs
  • Enter data and use analytical and design software applications
  • Confer with Engineer and Scientific staff on remediation system operations
  • Set up, maintain, and calibrate equipment and train others to do so
  • Provide some training in basic methods and procedures to lower level technical personnel
  • Operate computer systems and peripheral equipment
  • May observe and document routine construction operations and write routine field reports
  • May assist and observe contractor work on short and long term construction projects and interact with client, contractor or subcontractor representatives accordingly
  • May prepare work orders for repairs and/or requisitions for replacement of equipment
  • May perform a variety of non-technical tasks designed to assist others in preparing for and/or conducting office, laboratory or field activities and
  • May assist in other non-technical projects as appropriate

Who You Are

Role Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED
  • 3 years' experience of maintenance of field equipment
  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving record
  • Must pass Health and Safety Training and Defensive Driving Courses upon hire
  • Understanding of applicable scientific methods and technical methodologies
  • Ability to use laboratory test equipment in an effective and safe manner
  • Ability to understand procedural manuals and execute work orders
  • Ability to prepare reports and documentation independently
  • Ability to prepare daily reports and submit those reports on a timely basis

Physical Job Requirements

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to drive large pick-up truck; ability to drive a trailer helpful
  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function
  • Must complete employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as required and
  • Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required.

Machines, Tools and/or Equipment Used

  • May use a number of different pieces of field tools or equipment, i.e. hand tools, impact wrenches, other tools
  • Employee will be fully trained in the use of equipment necessary to accomplish their work
  • On occasion, office equipment such as photocopy machine and fax machine and
  • Personal computer and desk top software (e.g., MSOffice)

Work Environment

  • Will require work at sites around construction equipment, drilling rigs, and environmental contamination.
  • Overtime and overnight stays may be required
  • Some fieldwork may require working with hazardous materials and in hazardous conditions.

Travel

  • May spend most or all of time in the field, including at sites away from the office, as part of on-site team.

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $44,000-79,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
