This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Environmental Permitting Specialist for our Minneapolis office.  The following locations will also be considered: Duluth, MN.  Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

WSP is actively seeking a biologist/environmental scientist experienced in the preparation of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Clean Water Act Section 404 and associated state permit applications.

 

Job functions include:

  • Project research and data gathering
  • Development of drawings, mapping and graphic production
  • Site reconnaissance, Field sampling and monitoring
  • Prepare and review technical reports and analyses, and permit applications
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies
  • Preparation of environmental reports and supporting materials
  • Coordinate with project managers, task managers, project team technical leads, subconsultants, and other disciplines such as planning, siting, engineering, and PM/CM team members
  • Verifies project adherence to federal, state and local environmental regulatory requirements
  • Participates in project teams and participating in regular program/project planning, execution and delivery team meetings.
  • Represents the company at public or regulatory meetings
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Participates in preparation of proposal and/or marketing materials, including qualifications, scopes of work, and fee estimates

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have:

  •  5-7 years of experience obtaining Regulatory Permits with state, federal and municipal agencies to achieve permits to meet project goals and execution schedules
  • Experience in Missouri and surrounding states preferred
  • Experience working in team environment to site facilities in the energy sector minimizing environmental, visual and customer impacts considering the companies and projects business requirements
  • Experience leading wetland delineation efforts and preparing permit application materials
  • B.S. in Biological or Ecological Sciences, M.S. preferred but not required
  • Strong writing skills
  • Good communication skills and team player
  • Certified Wetlands Biologist preferred
  • Experience working with permitting linear facilities (roadways, electric transmission lines, pipelines) is preferred
  • Experience conducting natural resources constraints analyses for energy, industrial, and transportation facilities is a plus
  • Experience writing or contributing to NEPA compliance documentation is a plus
  • Travel may be required

• Must be able to pass a Fit for Duty Exam / Medical Exam.

• Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

• This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol
