This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full Time Fire Protection Inspector for our Client's Jersey City, NJ office.  Be involved in projects with our PMCM Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

Your Impact

  • Working at the World Trade Center site and other Port Authority Facility locations.
  • Acceptance inspection and testing of fire protection and life safety systems on new construction or alteration projects.
  • Providing work-around solutions for fire protection problems identified in the field.
  • Attendance at meetings regarding fire protection and life safety systems and equipment.
  • Review design documents for approval of fire protection and life safety systems
  • Conducting inspections of fire protection and life safety systems in existing buildings.
  • Review of code required inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection and life safety systems.
  • Generate reports, memos, and other documentation.
  • Night and weekend shifts may be required.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of 9 years experience inspecting various types of fire protection systems and equipment including but not limited to fire pumps, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, fire/smoke dampers, and special suppression systems.
  • Working knowledge of New York City and New Jersey Building and Fire Codes as well as NFPA Standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard safety practices.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and effective communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to pass a SWAC Background Check at High Level
  • Proficient in basic computer skills utilizing Windows / Outlook / Word / Excel and scheduling applications
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license - travel within the region will be required.
  • Must be available to work alternate work hours on as needed basis.
  • Proven ability to adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • This hire will be contingent upon client selection and successful background check.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • This role is subject to a client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of the client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates / Bachelor's Degree
  • NICET Certification in Fire Protection is desirable.
  • Knowledge of NYS Building Code
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards
  • Experience with Agency Construction preferred.
  • This position is subject to and contingent upon client approval of candidates put forth for consideration by WSP.

Compensation and Benefits: 

WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career. 

Expected Salary: $68,700- $117,920
