This Opportunity

WSP, a global leader in engineering and consultancy across natural and built environments, is currently recruiting for a Pennsylvania/New Jersey Flood Resilience Leader (Leader) with a Business Development background to support growth in the Water Resources Sector. The selected candidate will provide leadership to drive growth in WSP’s share of the Flood Resilience and Infrastructure markets in the Mid-Atlantic (i.e. Pennsylvania and New Jersey), with a focus on dams, levees and other flood control mitigation strategies. This opportunity will allow the Lead to work with a dynamic group of flood resiliency and climate change specialists throughout North America. This position will be based out of a WSP office in either Pennsylvania (Blue Bell or Philadelphia) or New Jersey (Lawrenceville, Somerset, or Marlton). 
 
This position will have sales/bookings accountability to the district, regional, and national management team to support year over year growth and client account management in the Water Sectors across the Mid-Atlantic. The Leader will update the strategic plan for the Mid-Atlantic district in collaboration with respective regional business development leaders, the national sector leader, the district leader, and appropriate staff. The plan will address market conditions, identify key clients and opportunities, lay out strategies for business development, and identify needs to support and execute pursuits and projects. The plan will be refreshed at least annually.

The Leader will implement the plan and lead the team to accomplish the objectives in the strategic plan. The Leader will manage sector activities to support and encourage collaboration and accountability across the offices, district, and region. The Leader will ensure that WSP is using best practices in pursuing opportunities including positioning, partnering, capture planning, and proposing. The Leader will also be a liaison between the district/region and the Earth & Environment and national Water Sector Leaders. The Leader will manage information related to sector activities. Working with appropriate resources, the Leader will ensure that sales are reported accurately and timely, and that the Client Relationship Management (CRM) system is up to date and accurate. The Leader will engage in reviews of strategies, initiatives, pursuits, and sales with the regional leadership team. The key measures of success will include active recruiting, senior business development and technical leadership, and support growing the CRM pipeline.

Your Impact

  • Identify market trends within the flood resilience industry in the Mid-Atlantic regarding capital investments
  • Build relationships with core clients and target new clients to expand WSP’s client base
  • Proactively identify business opportunities
  • Lead sales efforts for identified opportunities - determine key selling points, develop, and communicate the strategy both internally and externally, and lead the overall sales initiative
  • Evaluate potential opportunities, determining the strategic fit within WSP’s organizational strategy, the likelihood of success with this opportunity (both sales success and margin success from project execution), in coordination and supported by WSP Key Specialty Leads in Water Resources and Civil Works
  • Participate in developing marketing objectives and strategies in support of short- and long-term corporate business goals.
  • Identify, prioritize, and manage customer contacts and relationships
  • Manage and build the Mid-Atlantic Water Resources team
  • Develop account plans and provide periodic reporting
  • Develop presentation and marketing materials
  • Make formal client presentations
  • Coordinate and execute (including hands-on managing and writing) preparation of proposals including interface with WSP’s Strategic Growth Team
  • Provide high level technical and project management support to key clients 
  • Engage on projects and be billable to clients

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • 4-year Engineering Degree, or equivalent combination of training and experience required
  • Strong reputation and industry recognition through project delivery, networking, professional societies, conference participation, etc.
  • Experience in business development
  • Having an established relationship with agencies that have a flood resilience mission across North America, such as FEMA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Bureau of Reclamation, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, as well as state, provincial and local agencies would be beneficial.
  • An established list of industry contacts across the Mid-Atlantic.
  • Experience in digital innovation / tools and methodologies applicable to the flood resilience industry
  • Experience and ability to develop and sustain client relationships 
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction contract terms and conditions
  • Must possess excellent written, presentation, and people skills
  • Must have demonstrated ability to manage customer relationships
  • Experience managing people and leading a team
