This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-time Junior Construction Inspector for our Raleigh, NC office. Be involved in projects with our Construction Management Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges

Your Impact

  • Examine and interpret construction plans, schedules and quantities.
  • Support senior project inspectors in functional areas such as construction inspection, surveying and material sampling and testing.
  • Verify that work is performed safely and in accordance with the project plans and specifications.
  • Perform a wide variety of standardized and non-standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing and processing field data.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • 0-2 years of road and bridge construction inspection and testing experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Engineering Interns (EI) may be eligible for this position without experience.
  • The ability to attain the following certifications within 90 days +/- or as class scheduling allows: NCDOT Concrete Field Technician certification, NCDOT Conventional Density certification, Level II Erosion & Sediment Control/Storm water certification, NCDOT QMS Roadway Technician certification, NCDOT ABC and Borrow Pit Sampling certification
  • Ability to keep accurate records and compute field data.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
  • General awareness of construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, process, methods and techniques.
  • General awareness of relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.
  • Ability to work independently under supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Ability to perform physical activities required of the testing and inspection procedures including squatting, bending, lifting, climbing and traversing difficult terrain.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.
