This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Electrical Engineer for our San Francisco, CA Office. Be involved in projects with our Northern California Buildings Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Our Engineers work on high quality, high-profile, future-focused projects and business objectives. You will actively participate in the full project lifecycle, from the design phase through the final construction close-out. You will work closely with architects and owners on small to large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment. Your Impact

Responsibilities include (under guidance with management):

  • Project/Financial Management - Lead design efforts and manage projects including budget development, project scope development, and ensure that delivery goals are followed through project close-out.
  • Business Development – developing and maintaining client relationships and support management in business development activities.
  • Client Interaction.
  • Collaborate with internal (local, national and international) and external client team members.
  • Provide project status updates and reports to project directors, clients, management, integrated project teams, and stakeholders.
  • Lead a cross-functional team of engineers to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects.

Technical Responsibilities (with guidance from senior staff): 

  • Service utility coordination.
  • Power distribution.
  • Lighting and lighting controls.
  • Fire alarm.
  • Grounding systems.
  • Low voltage infrastructure.
  • Emergency power systems.
  • UPS design.
  • Coordination with city and state permitting agencies.
  • Creation of project drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, lighting design and technology systems. 
  • Oversee Construction administration.
  • Follow WSP’s quality control process.
  • Mentoring junior staff and sharing knowledge.
  • Remain current in latest electrical engineering techniques and practices.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer.
  • Engineer license required.
  • Project experience submitted for consideration should include buildings on which you have actively participated in the project from the design phase through the final construction close-out. 
  • Interest in a wide range of market sectors – such as healthcare, commercial, high-rise residential, aviation, retail, data center, etc.  
  • Proficient with electrical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, design/bid/build and the application to permitting and project work-related issues. 
  • Experience with electrical infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction standards, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of electrical engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations. 
  • Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Strong working knowledge of ETAP.
  • Strong working knowledge of Revit.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • LEED Certification.
  • Experience in the healthcare industry with HCAi experience.
  • Experience managing small to mid-size projects.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $79,100 - $182,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
