WSP is currently initiating a search for an enthusiastic and motivated Lead Highway/Drainage Engineer for Atlanta Transportation team! The WSP Atlanta office serves clients from around the state on a wide variety of projects ranging from turn lanes and widening, intersection improvements and bridge replacements to urban interchange reconstructions and large design-build projects. This position is an excellent opportunity to continue to enhance design and production skills and build relationships within WSP as well as with a large number of clients around the state.The Lead Civil Highway/Drainage Engineer should have experience in leading design of civil, highway, stormwater drainage design and/or traditional delivery and alternative delivery projects. This position may function as the lead engineer projects for the state DOT and other local agency / municipal clients. Responsibilities may also include project management, contributing on pursuits, maintaining client relationships, design and QA/QC. This role will be a key contributor in assisting in managing daily activities of the Civil/Highway group.
Your Impact
- Ensure that production of specifications, reports and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements and are commensurate with professional standards, client requirements and corporate objectives.
- Provide coordination with other design disciplines and remote office locations, including: Planning, Environmental, Roadway, Structures, Hydraulics/Drainage and Traffic.
- Providing guidance and mentoring of staff and direct work assignments.
- Collaborating with management to determine long-range plans and objectives, including recommendations on project staffing.
- Lead project tasks for conceptual and preliminary engineering and final design activities, as well as development of construction plans, calculations and specifications.
- Coordinate with other design disciplines such as structures, hydraulics, traffic, and utilities, etc.
- Participate hands-on in the preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E).
- Review, monitor and/or develop complex layouts, sketches, plans, specifications and estimates standards and guidelines, correspondence, and/or prepare reports.
- Lead projects with all aspects of Transportation Design from conceptual and preliminary engineering to final design.
- Ensure that production of specifications, reports and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements.
- Coordinating with internal and external clients.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineering License
- 7 - 10 years of experience in large transportation and infrastructure projects, with a focus in Roadway and Hydraulics/Drainage Design.
- Significant experience working with DOT projects and clients.
- Familiarity with design applications such as Microstation/Openroads/Inroads, HCS, Geopak.
- Demonstrated creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment, and successfully managing multiple projects and task assignments, relying upon experience in design quality control programs.
- Experience preparing, managing and reviewing project deliverables including planning, design and construction documents, project reports, environmental studies, cost estimates, scopes of work, proposals, etc.
- Demonstrated experience with State and local governments, contractors, transportation agencies, etc.Ability to demonstrate strong focus on operations and project delivery.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience on Alternative Delivery projects.
- Experience with large transportation design build projects.
- Master’s Degree in Engineering. #LI-JA1
