WSP is growing and we have an exciting opportunity for a Mid Level Environmental Scientist to work with our environmental group located in Utah and the Mountain West from our Salt Lake City office.  We offer a good mix of office and field work, a variety of interesting projects and the opportunity to learn and grow.
 
WSP’s Salt Lake City office provides a broad range of services in engineering and environmental sciences including environmental assessment and remediation, water resources, environmental compliance, geotechnical design, transportation and materials testing.  Our ideal candidate will be excited about the opportunity to support our environmental consulting business and possess knowledge and technical skills in investigation, CERCLA, RCRA, remediation technologies, remedial solution implementation and compliance monitoring, permit preparation and compliance programs, including state and federal rules & regulations.

Your Impact

•    Will work under the supervision and mentorship of a Senior Environmental Scientist
•    Support state, federal, municipal, commercial, and industrial environmental investigations, remediation, decommissioning and redevelopment projects
•    Conduct a variety of field services for environmental site investigation and remediation activities, including drilling technologies such as direct push, hollow stem auger, and sonic drilling
•    Will provide oversight of drilling subcontractors and other supporting subcontractors and the management of investigation derived waste
•    Plan and perform assigned tasks under limited supervision, such as the collection of soil, soil vapor, sediment, surface water and groundwater samples in accordance with state and federal regulations and standard operating procedures
•    Will travel to project sites primarily in Utah and the mountain west regions.  Approximately 20-30% travel.
•    Support environmental report preparation for environmental due diligence, permitting, site characterization, soil and groundwater investigations, corrective action plans, sampling and analysis plans/quality assurance project plans, remedial design and implementation 
•    Support other disciplines in field services including geotechnical site investigations, materials field sampling and testing as needed.
•    Support environmental projects with asbestos inspections and reporting.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

•    B.S. degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology or other related fields
•    Minimum 3 - 5 years + of environmental experience with increasing responsibility
•    Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organizational skills
•    Experience with project reporting, including compilation and interpretation of field and analytical data and synthesizing field notes for technical report narratives
•    Knowledge of mountain west state and federal regulations
•    Must be a self-starter, team oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills
•    Proficiency with the use of standard software packages including MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
•    Ability and willingness to travel to project sites primarily in Utah and the mountain west regions.  Approximately 20-30% travel.
•    Must pass physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Preferred Qualifications:


•    Utah asbestos inspector accreditation preferred, but not required.
•    40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training, MSHA training desirable
