This Opportunity

WSP is searching for a Field Technician Assistant to support our Portland, ME office.  Be involved in projects with our Site Investigation and Remediation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

Your Impact

  • Work on a local team to responsively meet client objectives
  • Under general supervision, perform routine field sampling/testing of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment and air in accordance with established procedures
  • Follow standard methods to properly calibrate and maintain testing equipment
  • Document and evaluate data 
  • Support operations and maintenance at groundwater treatment plants and other remediation systems
  • Prepare and submit accurate, legible, and complete draft daily reports which may include tables and figures 
  • Follow safety rules and practices and report any safety issues or concerns to management
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong initiative, problem-solving and communication skills, and attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel for overnight field assignments as dictated by project demands (including to remote locations and outside work in various climates up to 75% of time)
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
  • Ability to independently complete field assignments and summarize field data for use in reporting
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and a professional attitude
  • Ability to prepare daily reports and documentation
  • Basic knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening
  • Must pass a HAZWOPER physical and be able to wear an air purifying respirator

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Able to work in variable outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold

Preferred Qualifications

  • 40-hr OSHA HAZWOPER certification
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with soil and groundwater sampling
  • Experience with groundwater treatment system operations and maintenance or similar construction/mechanical/laboratory experience.
