WSP is currently initiating a search for a Water Resources Engineer for our Virginia Beach office. Be involved in projects with our Mid-Atlantic District Water Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Your Impact
- Assist senior engineers in the development of a wide variety of water resource design, assessment and study projects.
- Perform stormwater and drainage design analyses including performing hydraulic calculations/modeling and determining design requirements for infrastructure design/upgrades, resiliency projects, pump stations and transportation projects.
- Prepare technical reports summarizing analysis and project requirements, including how design approach addresses project requirements. Prepare complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and software.
- Utilize CADD and GIS tools in support of H&H analyses. Have a basic understanding of hydraulic modeling and the ability to learn WIN TR-55, WIN TR-20, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD and other modeling software in support of design projects.
- Utilize CADD to prepare construction drawings. Have a basic understanding on 3D design or the ability to learn on 3D design in support of evaluating design alternatives, and plan production.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Environmental Engineering or closely related discipline
- 5 plus years of relevant post education experience in water resources.
- At a minimum, Engineer in Training Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. PE License is desirable.
- Experience and working knowledge of the following:
- Hydraulic Design for pipe/channels. Experience with HECRAS 1D or 2D modeling is a plus.
- H&H analysis using WinTR-55, WinTR-20, HY-8, HydroCAD and similar programs
- CADD production/civil design (MicroStation Power InRoads/OpenRoads or AutoCAD Civil 3D) - Knowledge of GIS software and applications (e.g., Arc GIS, GISHydro,etc.)
- Self-starter with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently with some supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives
- Ability to travel to support business needs
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in the above-referenced discipline
- Affiliations with professional societies and active industry and community involvement are highly desirable
