This Opportunity

WSP USA's Northern California Transportation Group is seeking a Senior Architect - Transportation for our San Francisco, CA Office

Join our growing team of transportation facility design professionals making a positive impact in our community through the design and construction of public transportation systems. You will provide high level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, planning, concept development, design, and construction administration of creative, functional, and sustainable transportation facility designs. 

Your Impact

  • Prepare detailed architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents for a range of project scales, including complex and larger-scale projects.
  • Coordinate the work of the engineering team.
  • Provide guidance with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, environmental data, historical use, and other sources for project development, design, and construction.   
  • Perform professional architectural work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, buildings, infrastructure, transportation systems, and operations to determine conformance with applicable codes, requirements, rules, standards, construction permits, and operating permits.
  • Develop construction documents, timelines, and cost estimates; update as required; and coordinate with owner’s representatives, consultants, sub-consultants, and stakeholders.
  • Participate from project inception to completion in the design, management, and construction administration of building and infrastructure projects in accordance with contractual terms, professional standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Develop and incorporate advanced technologies, building materials, digital modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of occupants and end-users; implement future-ready solutions in accordance with applicable architectural design standards.
  • Oversee and monitor interdisciplinary teams of engineers, architects, planners, and other professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, establishing timelines, technical calculations, digital data processes, permit applications, construction, compliance documentation, regulatory, and technical analysis memos.
  • Coordinate, review, and approve building and infrastructure design plans, ensuring data integrity and compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, artistic sketches, renderings, calculations, cross-sections, 2D and 3D illustrations for the interpretation and presentation of more complex visuals, data, findings, or analyses.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, concepts, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address structural, environmental, design, timeline, and/or construction issues or opportunities. 
  • Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data obtained during site investigations and other sources, offering input with developing designs.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with professionals, subcontractors, and building authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities. 
  • Remain current in latest architectural techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in the professional practice of architecture. 
  • California licensed architect.
  • Highly proficient with architectural principles, practices, process, and the application to project work-related issues. 
  • Knowledge and experience with building planning, drawing standards, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of renovation and new-build design projects.
  • Strong creative, visualization, and technical drawing skills.
  • Working knowledge of sustainable design practices, green building design, and related rating systems.
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant building and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of architectural principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons and illustrations to the appropriate regulations. 
  • Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of buildings, facilities, and structures, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others and ability to express ideas effectively and professionally to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated high-level of proactive self-motivation with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, and strict adherence to relevant QA/QC procedures.
  • Proficient with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, REVIT, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite), technology, math principles, graphics, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills applied with technical knowledge to reach conclusions from research results, data collection, feedback, and statistical analysis to arrive at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing consultants and staff to consistently complete tasks completely, correctly, and efficiently on time.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug, alcohol, and anti-harassment policies.
  • Ability to work to schedules required by project-specific requirements that may extend work beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with transportation facility design.
  • Experience working with public transportation agencies such as BART, SFMTA, or Caltrain.

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $85,300 - $174,200 

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
