WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Bridge Engineer for our Dallas, TX office.

Job Description:

-Performs all aspects of engineering and design for transportation structures such as bridges and retaining walls. Position requires detailed knowledge and experience of bridge project development and application of engineering principles with minimal guidance.  Position may also require providing guidance to less experienced engineers and structural task management for production of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates.

-Assists with the evaluation, development, design, or selection of required structures

-Performs analysis and design calculations for structures

-Calculates estimated quantities and cost estimates for structures

-Provides guidance to CADD technicians for the development of structural design plans

-Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers or EIT’s

-Performs quality control reviews of design plans and calculations

-Reviews fabricator/contractor working drawings

-Researches applicable design codes and guidelines to ensure design compliance

-Researches design options and documents findings

-Coordinates assignments with project team and supervisor

-May use Bentley ORD or OBM to perform design tasks

-Performs other duties as assigned by project team/supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

-Masters degree with a focus on Structural Engineering

-Licensed PE in TX with 5 plus years of experience

-Licensed PE in Texas with >5 years’ experience

-Masters degree in Civil Engineering or related field is preferred

              a. Establish understanding of design software, templates, and calculations

              b. Review your own work before providing to Quality Control review

              c. Stride to minimize cycles of check-update-recheck

              d. Adhere to Quality Control Process

              e. Be proactive

-Document your work in a clean organized fashion:

              a. Calculations are preferred in Mathcad, Excel, or applicable software

              b. Calculations with multiple sources should be scanned into single .pdf file that includes all information needed to understand the design

-Properly use the electronic directory structure (save files in appropriate locations)

-Proficient with applicable design software: Leap Bridge, PGSUPER, BGS, WINCORE, ORD, OBM, MDX, BrR etc.

-Adhere to applicable deign codes and guidelines:

              a. AASHTO LRFD, TxDOT Bridge Design Manual, TxDOT Geotechnical Manual

              b. TxDOT Bridge Information on design as outlined on TxDOT website

-Be familiar with all bridge plans and standards required in plan set

-Be familiar with structural items in TxDOT Standard Specification for Construction

-Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
