WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Geologist/Permitting Manager to be located in our Houston, TX or Baton Rouge, LA office. The REGS team supports clients with subsurface geological and engineering concerns for site selection, feasibility, permitting, and petitioning of underground injection control wells for nonhazardous/hazardous waste injection, cavern storage, and carbon sequestration. The team also interacts regularly with state and federal regulatory agencies on behalf of our clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•       Manage and lead the REGS team, currently made up for 12 engineers and geologists at various experience levels.

•       Be a part of WSP's TXSW Energy leadership team.

•       Grow the REGS team by winning both new and repeat work.

•       Interact and develop relationships with new and existing clients.

•       Meet with regulators on client's behalf.

•       Proposal preparations.

•       Work on projects such as feasibility studies and permit preparations for Class I, II, V or VI injection or storage wells.

•       Supports drilling activities and workover activities remotely.

•       Supports regulatory compliance issues, and other duties as assigned.

•       Review REGS team's deliverables with focus on content, quality and on-time completion.

•       Manage projects and deliver the scope within the budget and schedule.

•       Work with multidisciplinary team of geologists, engineers, CAD specialists, and administrative assistants to deliver successful projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

•       Bachelor of Science in Geology or Petroleum Engineering

•       Professional Geologist (PG) or Engineering (PE) License.

•       Permitting experience in Underground Injection Control (UIC).

•       15 years of experience working as a petroleum engineer or geologist.

•       5 years of experience working with injection or storage wells.

•       Experienced with technical writing and developing proposals and large technical documents.

•       Strong communication skills.

•       Travel expected to be < 25%. 

•       Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

•       Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

•       Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

•       This role is subject to a client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of the client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.

•       Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

•       Previous management experience.

•       Master of Science in Geology or Petroleum Engineering.

•       Permitting experience with TCEQ, LDNR, US EPA or similar.

•       Government agency work experience.

•       Written technical papers and presented at conferences.
