This Opportunity

WSP's Resilient Environment Business Group is seeking a Sr. Consultant, Water Resources Scientist to help lead our storm water and surface water consulting team in Costa Mesa, CA. Bachelors or Masters Degree in natural or physical sciences or related engineering field is required, with a minimum of 5 years of experience field sampling for water quality / environmental analytes.   The ideal candidate will be excited about the opportunity to maintain and grow our environmental consulting business and possess knowledge and technical skills in storm water management, TMDLs, indicator bacteria, water quality resources, environmental permitting, and municipal, commercial and industrial NPDES compliance. Your Impact

  • Has managed surface water collection monitoring programs.
  • Expertise in California in Stormwater Regulatory Environment.
  • Oversight, QA/QC, and mentoring of junior staff.
  • Coordinate and lead multi-discipline teams.
  • Lead project teams, ensuring that project deliverables are met, as well as adherence to schedule and budget expectations. 
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate staffing levels needed for projects.
  • Assist with client and project development – track opportunities, identify client needs, assist with proposals and marketing materials where needed.
  • Participate with leadership in developing strategic plan for Southern California.
  • Maintain relationships with key client project managers.
  • Support proposal preparation work and technical work scope development.
  • Market and develop new work to support the continued growth of the practice area.
  • Recruit employees, assign, direct, and evaluate their work.
  • Travel to project(s) as needed for the execution of project goals.
  • Remain current in latest environmental science subject matter and techniques.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Water Resources Engineering or Science; advanced degree(s) preferred. 
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years relevant experience. 
  • Proven track record marketing and developing new work.
  • Expertise knowledge of local (southern California) water resource market.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with, mentor and direct engineers, scientists and technicians.
  • Exhibit ability to successfully track and meet budgets and schedules.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to technical reports, preparing environmental impact evaluations, siting reports, and environmental permit applications, including field surveys and reporting, and resource and impact evaluations.
  • Demonstrated experience selling, managing, performing and consulting on projects and programs including a wide range of project sizes. 
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Compensation:

Expected Salary: $90,000 - $105,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
