This Opportunity

tk1sc, a WSP USA company, is seeking a Senior Engineer (Mechanical) for the following locations: Riverside, CA.  Hybrid work schedule available.

This position provides technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, design, site surveys, engineering, construction administration, field observation and general consulting activities for mechanical HVAC systems on building construction projects in the public and private sector.  Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, concept development, planning, installation, operation, maintenance, and optimal integration of automatic temperature control, air distribution, and hydronic equipment and processes.  Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding installation, construction, and operation specifications.  Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Perform professional mechanical engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing building conditions, and mechanical systems to determine conformance with applicable codes, standards, and construction practices.
  • Incorporate advanced technology, modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications; implementing future-ready solutions with mechanical engineering design standards.
  • Provide site surveys and field verification for all types of construction issues relating to mechanical equipment, automatic temperature control systems, air distribution (supply, return, exhaust), hydronic systems (chilled water, heating water, etc.) and other specialty HVAC systems.
  • Work as an individual or as part of a cross-disciplinary team of engineering professionals to execute project work involving HVAC Systems, and ensuring project work conforms with drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate design, engineering, calculations, and specifications.
  • Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations that clearly explain and illustrate HVAC concepts to the design and construction teams.
  • Conduct engineering studies and surveys on a particular design and construction problem or issue and/or to plan for future needs.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).  
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers, agencies, officials, contractors, owners and clients on private, federal, state, regional, and locally funded new construction and modernization projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior mechanical design experience.

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Proficient knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
  • Experience with building design and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Ability to coordinate with Building Departments, DSA, OSHPD, and other code officials and understand requirements.
  • Working knowledge of relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively express ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
  • Ability to plan and conduct field surveys and field observation reports on various aspects of the construction and design activities, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Word, Excel, load calculation software, and Title-24 compliance software.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • Experience managing small to mid-size projects.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $91,800 - $133,800

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
