This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Water Resources Engineer for our Lawrenceville, NJ office.  The following locations will also be considered: Philadelphia, PA and Morristown, NJ. Be involved in projects with our Water Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. The successful candidate will utilize their professional experience and technical knowledge of civil engineering and hydrology and hydraulics to mentor junior staff and lead water resource projects including stormwater and drainage design, floodplain management and flood control, site civil and utility design.  

Your Impact

  • Planning, executing and delivering engineering designs and bid packages for major drainage projects and other related projects.
  • Manage task execution, including concept development, preliminary design, final design, permitting, through procurement and construction.
  • Write reports documenting findings, conclusions and recommendations.
  • Develop and manage the development of hydrologic and hydraulic models to support water infrastructure and environmental projects.
  • Perform GIS and AutoCad Civil 3D analyses to support engineering and technical services.
  • Grow as a Technical Team Leader and Manager for Water Resources Engineering through progressively building proficiency with complex projects and managing and mentoring junior staff and assisting mid-level staff.
  • Support the implementation of our business development strategy. Support proposals, initiatives and develop strategic key client accounts.
  • Project management activities, including adhering to budgets, schedules, and invoicing.
  • Attend project meetings involving communication to federal, state and local government officials.
  • Apply regulatory knowledge from FEMA, NJDEP, NYSDEC, FERC, USBR, USACE, NJ/NYSDOT, and other local, state and federal agencies.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Water or Environmental Engineering or a related field with a strong foundation in fluid mechanics and hydrologic principles
  • Ten (10) years of relevant work experience in civil engineering, stormwater/drainage design, hydrology, hydraulics, and/or coastal engineering.
  • NJ PE or ability to obtain one in 6 months. Registered in multiple states a plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS and ArcGIS
  • Must function independently with minimal supervision in a multi-disciplinary team setting which includes engineers, planners, and environmental scientists
  • Proven decision-making, strategic and visionary thinking, and creative business development capabilities across a multi-disciplined practice
  • Ability to perform field work/site visits required and some travel required
  • Must possess a valid US driver's license
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Strong writing skills to support technical reporting.
  • Demonstrated client relationship and management experience.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Project experience in the NJ/PA/DE area
  • Certified Floodplain Manager,  Affiliations with professional societies and active industry and community involvement are highly desirable
