This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an entry-level Structural Engineer for our Glastonbury, CT and Providence, RI offices. Be involved in projects with our Structures Transportation Team supporting our New England clients including RIDOT and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

  • Perform professional structural engineering work and Bridge Design tasks as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Assist in the preparation of contract drawings and specifications.
  • Preparation of design calculations for medium and long span bridge replacement projects.
  • Strong knowledge with structural analysis software and CADD (AutoCAD and/or Microstation).
  • Perform load rating analysis and evaluation of existing structures for repairs/retrofits.
  • Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, architects, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work, assist with laying out installations, establishing reference points/elevations/grades to guide construction, selecting appropriate materials to ensure durability, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience
  • Knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues. 
  • Proficiency in applicable national standards such as AASHTO.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software and CADD (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is a plus)
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Prior design experience.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
