WSP is currently initiating a search for a Traffic Engineer for our Raleigh office.  The following locations will also be considered: Charlotte, NC.  Be involved in projects with our Transportation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Traffic Engineering is a subdiscipline of transportation engineering that addresses the planning, design and operation of streets and highways, their networks, adjacent land uses and interaction with other modes of transportation and their terminals. The Traffic Engineer provides technical assistance and guidance for the analysis, improvement, planning, engineering, design, and operation of streets and highways, their networks, adjacent land uses, and interaction with other modes of transportation and their terminals.  Tasks include assisting with performing capacity analyses, reviewing permitting, and assisting with the design, concept development, and construction of roadways, traffic patterns, traffic signal design and timing, and signing and deleneation plans.  Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding construction specifications.  Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, maps, technical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Perform professional traffic engineering work and assist with conducting investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors.
  • Participate in incorporating advanced modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, transportation vehicles/systems, and incorporate future-ready solutions with traffic engineering design standards.
  • Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work.
  • Provide technical assistance on traffic engineering studies, capacity analyses, traffic complaint investigation, traffic plan review, signal system design, monitoring and control, and operations analysis to ensure roadways are designed in a safe and efficient way and the driver is provided with all of the necessary information and safety metrics to help ensure that their driving experience is safe and efficient.
  • Assess safety features on the road, recommending traffic safety enhancement projects on the basis of respective studies.
  • Determine appropriate signage, signals, and pavement markings along a new or existing road.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses. • Work collaboratively with other engineers, planners, scientific professionals, and DOT authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded road and transportation improvement and development projects.
  • Remain current in latest traffic engineering techniques and practices.
