Built Ecology is WSP’s US buildings sustainability practice, providing a broad range of services including sustainability strategy and planning, goal setting and workshop facilitation, high-performance design assistance, complex building performance analysis, building certifications, energy and GHG master planning, and building performance verification. This Opportunity

WSP has an immediate need for a Vice President with a specialization in Energy and Climate solutions to join Built Ecology, WSP’s growing buildings sustainability practice. This position will/could work out of WSP's offices in Boston, MA. The individual will grow and strengthen our team by securing, staffing, managing, and delivering complex projects and client-facing engagements. Candidates should be passionate about sustainability, exhibit technical knowledge in [Expertise Domain or Subdomain], and demonstrate leadership skills and ability to deliver high‐quality products through appropriate time and priority management while leveraging resources and removing barriers and obstacles for the project team.

Your Impact

  • Direct, facilitate, and support multidisciplinary project team to establish high performance, general sustainability, and Net Zero goals, including leading and overseeing the development of various technical models beyond basic whole building energy modeling
  • Work closely with MEP design teams and project managers to lead the exploration of sustainable design solutions early in the project design and define a pathway to exceeding local codes and stretch codes
  • Utilize energy and GHG modeling tools to complete carbon modeling and develop net zero carbon roadmaps
  • Interpret climate information and building use typologies to inform building design strategies
  • Provide LEED and other certifications strategy and advice, particularly around energy and IEQ aspects
  • Develop and provide quality control reviews for Built Ecology deliverables related to energy and climate strategy, planning, analysis, and implementation
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of our project delivery standards, to ensure a high quality of work is consistently delivered by the national team
  • Strengthen WSP’s relationships with existing clients and develop new clients
  • Have a leadership presence in the industry and support business development
  • Lead an integrative approach to problem-solving by learning and including other experts and disciplines within WSP
  • Manage and support staff development, including in the areas of energy and climate.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a building design or building science discipline, including Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Building Science or similar
  • 12+ years of experience in sustainability, energy, and climate consulting for buildings 
  • Familiarity with IECC and ASHRAE requirements, Building Performance Standards and stretch codes focused on energy efficiency and electrification
  • Experience managing staff and supporting staff development
  • Ability to read and understand architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and design documents
  • Knowledge of mechanical system architecture and components
  • LEED Accredited Professional

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Professional Engineer or Registered Architect
  • Experience with energy modeling (IES-VE, OpenStudio, EnergyPlus), load calculations, and district systems
  • Experience coordinating green building, healthy building, and building performance certifications
  • Experience with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Science-based Targets, and other climate-related reporting frameworks
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and building physics for data centers, hospitals, laboratories, advanced manufacturing, and battery energy storage systems
